Why February Is One of the Most Magical Times to Get Engaged

February isn’t just another cold winter month, it’s LOVE‑uary, the season when romance takes center stage. With Valentine’s Day right in the middle, February has become one of the top THREE most popular times of the year for engagements along with Christmas and New Years. Whether you’re already engaged or hoping for that sparkling moment soon, this month carries a special kind of magic.

Valentine’s Day began as a blend of ancient Roman traditions and early Christian history, eventually evolving into the romantic holiday we know today. Its origins are a mix of legend, religion, and cultural transformation, and the “why” behind it is tied to both fertility rituals and, later, medieval ideas about love. Medieval Literature Sparked the Romantic Connection. Valentine’s Day did not become a romantic holiday until the 14th century. Writers like Geoffrey Chaucer linked February 14 with courtly love and the idea that birds choose their mates in early spring.

By the 18th century in England, exchanging flowers, sweets, and handwritten notes became common. The 19th century introduced mass‑produced Valentine cards, making the holiday commercial and widespread.

Now many couples get engaged on Valentines Day, because it's known as a time for love. Let's not forget that it would be hard to forget your anniversary.

Valentine's Day is universal. How special is that so many people all around the world celebrate the same day for all the same reasons........ LOVE. It has become a universal day to celebrate love, connection, and partnership, which is why it’s also one of the top three most popular days for engagements, making February especially meaningful for couples.

FAQ’s- when is the best time to tour wedding venues?

November through April is the best time, because once May gets here that is when wedding season is in full bloom and doesn't end until November. So the wedding venues have more time to spend with you now and more tour dates are available.

All thoughts rightly turn to the couple's that have booked and are getting married in the very near future. Having said that, most wedding venues offer tours twelve months year.

FAQ's- How far into the future should I book my wedding venue and vendors?

That is a great question. It used to be a few months away, but times have drastically changed. Now many engaged couples are booking two years away and a few even more.

FAQ's- Can I still get a good wedding venue if I want to get married in a year or less?

Yes, you can absolutely find a wedding venue in a shorter time frame. The number of venues, vendors, and amenities will decrease, but it is doable. There are venues that are limited by county regulations as to the number of weddings that they can host each year and are limited on the days of the week that they are allowed to hold weddings.

FAQ's How should I decide if I need to wait two years or more to get married?

The length of time that you decide to wait is typically dictated by things like budget, family or friend commitments and health issues. It can also be worth waiting if the venues or vendor that you fell in love with is already booked.

FAQ's- Is Prosperity Mansion and Farm offering any LOVE-uary specials?

Yes, If you book by the end of February and say you saw this, we are are offering a FREE rehearsal or an extra hour added to your package all valued at $400.

FAQ's- How did Valentines Day actually get started?

We touched don it earlier in this article, but here is more information for those of you that like to be in the know.

  • Ancient Roman Roots: The Festival of Lupercalia

Held in mid‑February, Lupercalia was a Roman festival celebrating fertility and the coming of spring. It included rituals meant to promote health, purification, and pairing men and women together by lottery. Many historians believe Valentine’s Day absorbed elements of this festival when Christianity spread.

  • Early Christian Influence: The Martyr(s) Named Valentine

There were several Christian martyrs named Valentine, and the exact one tied to the holiday is unclear. Two main legends stand out: Valentine of Rome: A priest executed around 270 CE by Emperor Claudius II for performing secret marriages after marriage was banned for young soldiers. Valentine of Terni: A bishop who was also executed under Claudius II. Later legends say Valentine wrote a farewell note signed “Your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter.

  • The Church Reframes the Holiday

In the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I ended the pagan festival of Lupercalia.

Over time, the Feast of St. Valentine on February 14 became the Christian replacement. The true origin is still somewhat vague, but the shift from pagan to Christian observance is widely accepted.
