Rain on your wedding day

Prosperity Mansion – The fun wedding venue.

Located in Frederick / Carroll Co Maryland

So you have always dreamed of an outdoor wedding. Walking through the meadows with the sun on your face and a soft breeze blowing. The trees gently swaying and all the beautiful colors of flowers blooming all around you.

Now its your wedding day. You have watched the weather reports all week. It started out as a chance of rain. But as your garden wedding day moved closer it became for sure. Yes, they predict that its definitely going to rain.

What do you do?

Call the venue. If you haven't already discussed with them what the rain plan is do it now.

Call the florist. Tell them that the wedding ceremony may be moved inside at this point. Ask them what they can do to decorate the inside of the tent to make it as lovely as the ceremonial arch.

Buy clear umbrellas. They actually make the most amazing photographs. The pictures that I have seen in the rain were to die for. They were absolutely stunning. You might even want to buy some and you can always take them back if you don't use them.

Stay calm. Wedding ceremony and receptions are just as beautiful in the rain. In fact they can certainly be more stunning. Do you remember sitting on the porch watching the rain. It was such an awesome feeling. Water is always soothing. In our tent there are windows all around and skylights. So you and your guest will be able to drink in that same feeling.

Your photographer will keep his eyes open for when the rain stops to whisk you out for photo's.

In some cultures, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck, symbolizing fertility and cleansing. So whether you are superstitious or just prefer to look on the bright side, think of it this way: Who couldn't use a little good luck on their big day?"

You can say bye-bye to that stuffy nose. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, the last thing you may want on your wedding day is hot, sunny skies — the perfect conditions to kick your allergies into high gear and turn your nose and eyes red, says Adams. "Rain reduces airborne pollen," she explains, "so if it's allergy season, you and your wedding party will feel better."

Fertility

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that you will have children. This belief came about since rain ultimately waters the ground and lends to fertility, thus allowing growth of plants and vegetation. This was always a big deal in communities based around agriculture.

Cleansing

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies the cleansing of tough times or sadness in your past. Sources say this since rain tends to wash away dirt and even pollution.

Unity

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that your marriage will last. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – therefore, when you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is supposedly just as hard to unravel! We can thank Hindu traditions for this belief.

Renewal

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies washing away of bad memories or occurrences and, in effect, gives you a completely new, fresh chapter in your life. You know that refreshing scent after the rain, just when the sun starts peaking back through the clouds? That “new day” feeling is where this belief came from – that your wedding will truly be the beginning of a new chapter in your lives.

Tears

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it symbolizes the last tears that the bride will shed for the rest of her life.

As Janice from Sampson’s Hollow states, “It rained on my wedding day, and I’ve been married to my husband for nearly 37 years!” She also described her flourishing family, so perhaps the rain really is good luck.

Since this superstition seems to pop up in many different cultures for different reasons, it is hard to pinpoint where it actually began. Most records I’ve found tend to list Hindu customs, traditions, and beliefs, so perhaps its origin resides there. Honestly, though, this superstition tends to have been tweaked by many different cultures, making what we hear today a mixture of many ideas and beliefs!
