Do we need witnesses in Maryland? No, but you can bring them.
Can we exchange rings? Yes, at all courthouse weddings and courthouse style weddings the ring exchange is a part of the ceremony.
What should we wear? You are welcome to be as formal or casual as you wish at either type of location.
Can we do a cake cutting? At the actual courthouse the answer is NO. However, at Prosperity Mansion and Farm not only is that welcome but we have several lovely spots available to provide photographic opportunities for that moment that shouldn’t be lost
Do we need to bring an officiant? Both types of weddings provide an officiant. In addition, Prosperity Mansion and Farm allows you to bring your own officiant if you choose.
What if it rains? The Courthouse is already inside. We mentioned that Prosperity Mansion and Farm have 4 different ceremony sites for the actual vows. In addition, we do have a plan B making it 5 sites. We have a state-of-the-art white tent built on a solid patio with chandeliers , French style furniture and more in case it rains. And during the winter months we have the vintage cottage for up to 20 guests as an indoor option.
What about Parking- Instead of an expensive garage parking or struggling to find street metered parking or parking is private and best of all FREE. You are greeted by rolling hills and the quiet rustle of birds chippering and the Maryland countryside. As you step onto the grounds, the sensory experience shifts from industrial to organic. Again all parking is FREE as well as safe space to enjoy.
Are we allowed to take a tour before we decide? At both the circuit Courthouse as well as Prosperity Mansion and Farm the answer is yes. But the difference is at the Circuit Courthouse the tour is about 5-10 minutes long because all you are looking at is one small room that seats less than 10 people.
At Prosperity Mansion and Farm the tour that we schedule for you last about 45 minutes to an hour. We show you the bridal suit, mancave, all of the areas that you may choose from to have the actual ceremony plus places for amazing photos. Then we sit down with you to discuss your vision and options so that you get the most on your wedding day.

We Offer Three Wedding Packages to Suit Most Budgets:
Courthouse Weddings, Intimate weddings, Elopements and Pop-Up weddings- As intimate as just the two of you or up to 30 of your closest friends and family and 1-3 hours. We also have a bridal suite and mancave available that allows you to arrive an hour or more sooner than your event to do, hair, make-up, dress and just relax.
Small / Micro Weddings- Up to 50 guests and 5-6 hours. Available May through the first weekend of November
Full day, DREAM Weddings- From 20 to 200 guests and 8-10-12 hours. Available May through the first weekend of November

4) Brick patio with fountain, antique swan gates and flower stepping stones overlooking rolling hills and a horse farm off in the distance.
Private Bridal Cottage and Man Cave- Available for you if you so desire for 1+ hours. Ask for pricing based upon the time that you would like to use these areas for hair , makeup, dressing or to simply relax before you walk down the aisle
IMOORTANT- Before you obtain your marriage license you need to know which county that you will be married in. Where you are getting married matters so that you obtain the proper marriage license. You must also have it 48 hours before the wedding will be considered legal.
How to Get a “Marriage License” and or get married at the Courthouse in Frederick MD
Getting married is one of the most amazing times in a couple’s life. There are parties such as engagement parties, showers, rehearsal dinners and then the wedding day. Amidst all of the wedding festivities are the MUST DO things one of which is obtaining your marriage license. Here are some helpful tips and information so that you know what to do and expect.
1) You MUST obtain the marriage license from the county in which you plan to be married. Knowing that, first and foremost you need to find your wedding venue so that you apply in the correct county. For example, if you choose Prosperity Mansion & Farm, www.prosperitymansion.com , you must apply in Frederick MD.
2) Both parties in the couple no longer need to be present. At one time you both needed to be present to apply but happily that has changed. However, you must make sure that you have proper ID for both of you such as a driver’s license, MVA identification card, birth certificate or Passport. A photocopy of the absent persons identification is acceptable identification.
3) Go to the clerk’s office located at. 100 West Patrick Street, Frederick MD 21710
4) You may fill out the application in person or go online – https://www.courts.state.md.us/sites/default/files/import/clerks/frederick/pdfs/preliminaryapplicationformmarriagelicense.pdf?=purge
5) If you go online don’t forget to print the application to take with you. The form cannot be submitted online.
6) The information is pretty basic. However, if either party has been married before they must provide the exact date, place and current standing of the marriage or marriages.
7) Cost- make sure that you have cash or a credit card to pay the $75.00 fee
8) You will be able to take the marriage license with you that same day
9) You must wait 2 days before you can get married once you have obtained the license or the marriage is invalid.
10) The license is good for 6 months
